Ecclesiastes 1:1-3, 13-14 -- The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem: "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless." What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun?

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

George Bernard Shaw once said, "Youth is such a wonderful thing it is a shame to waste it on young people." Young people do not especially appreciate that remark. Although they may not say so, they feel that is simply the viewpoint of a tired old man, envious of the abundant energy and abandon of youth. Perhaps they are right. Certainly, young people do not feel their youth is being wasted. They may not fully appreciate it, but it is not being wasted. Youth is a very wonderful time of life.
