Our new life in Christ begins with an initial period of joy and gladness, frequently with fruitful activity and observable changes. I always question the conversion of someone who doesn't soon experience some changes in his life, because the very purpose for which Christ enters our life is to redeem us, to buy us back out of uselessness into usefulness. This initial period is almost always a period of great joy.

As we are tracing through the Pilgrim's Progress of the Old Testament, the way God calls us from sinful rebellion to the land of fellowship with Christ, let us turn to Chapter 21 of Genesis. All that took place in the life of Abraham in a wonderfully accurate picture of what happens in our own spiritual progress. When Abraham in obedience to God's call came into the land of Canaan, it was a picture of the individual coming to the Lord Jesus Christ.
